Attendance
Under California compulsory education law, everyone between the ages of 6 and 18 is required to attend school.
We consistently and completely discourage truancy, the act of avoiding classes and assigned materials without a reason that is excused by school staff. We monitor the California Department of Education’s Chronic Absenteeism Rate Indicator, which indicates the percentage of students in our state who are absent from school for 10 percent or more instructional days in a school year.
School Attendance Review Boards (SARB) exist to help truant or chronically absent students and their parents or guardians solve attendance and behavior issues. To learn more about these groups, you may visit the CDE website.
