Phylis Kahl, Principal
STURE LARSSON HIGH

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Sture Larsson High School. Sture Larsson is one of two Lincoln Unified School District alternative high school programs. We are located approximately one-half mile south of Lincoln High School. Our dedicated and experienced teachers, counselor, and paraprofessionals work with approximately 100 students in grades 11 - 12. Collectively, we strive to offer our students a successful and memorable high school experience.

Students attending Sture Larsson are offered a well-rounded, rich academic program. Staff has received extended training in Strategic Literacy, emphasizing reading and writing across the curriculum. This training and related instruction has dramatically improved our students’ overall English/Language Arts performance. Mathematics is also a core emphasis with the addition of Algebra I as a graduation requirement beginning with the Class of 2004.

To prepare our students for college and employment, technology is an integral part of our program. Students are afforded the opportunity to receive extensive instruction and experiences in many areas of technology from word processing, email, internet and multimedia. Students also receive specialized instruction in the area of art and art related technology. Many of our students are extremely talented artists, and are given opportunities to freely explore their talents and interests with expert guidance and instruction.

Along with our versatile academic program, students at Sture Larsson are counseled and encouraged to enrich their experience by taking classes outside of our program. Our school counselor works with students to connect them with classes at Lincoln High School, Regional Occupational Programs, Stockton Unified School for Adults, and San Joaquin Delta College. Currently, approximately 10% of our students are enrolled in classes at Delta College. Our Choices Program, organized and facilitated by our school counselor, brings in members of the community to speak to our students about decision making, current health and wellness issues, and post secondary opportunities.

Our school is accredited by the Western Association of School Schools and Colleges and takes pride in meeting the criteria and expectations of that association and the California Department of Education. The mission of the school is to "Educate each student to reach maximum potential and succeed as a responsible member or our global society''.

Through accreditation, we know that we are on the right path towards reaching our goal.

We hope you enjoy looking over our website and the information included. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at pkahl@lusd.net, or stop by at 1813 McClellan. I look forward to personally showing visitors around our recently reconstructed campus.

Sincerely,
Phylis Kahl, Principal
