DON RIGGIO
Welcome to Don Riggio Elementary School! We are very excited about the excellent and innovative education program Don Riggio School has to offer. The curriculum adheres to the rigorous standards that the State of California has developed to help students succeed in their academic endeavors. The curriculum is thematically organized, allowing connections to be made among and between the different subjects (reading, writing, listening, speaking, math, social studies, science, visual and performing arts, physical education.)
The Don Riggio program is based on the child development research of Jean Piaget. This research reveals different stages of learning development, and that students learn differently in these stages. Teachers constantly try to match learning materials, activities and expectations to each student's developmental level.
People naturally learn from each other. In order to make use of this natural trait, the children work in multiage groupings whenever possible. Children can work with other children who are at various levels, and in so doing, learn a great deal through social interaction, sharing and supporting each other's learning.
