Don Riggio School History

Don Riggio School began as Pacific School in September 1992. We opened with first through eighth graders and added preschool and kindergarten students in September 1993. The school was located on Alexandria Place and shared some facilities with Sierra Middle School. The beginning of Pacific School brought to fruition two years of visioning, planning and collaborating among students, teachers, parents, administrators and community members. This planning was begun in response to the passage of a Mello-Roos bond in November 1990, through which voters indicated their support for the expansion and improvement of existing school facilities and programs. This innovative group dreamed of a school that was responsive to the needs of all learners, was respectful of its environment, would provide meaningful, real-life learning experiences, and would give students an opportunity to explore their particular areas of interest. school and kindergarten students were added in September 1993.

In 2002, the school moved to a new facility on Brookside Road. Pacific School was renamed Don Riggio to honor a member of the Board of Trustees who had served the District's students for 23 years. A team of teachers, parents and administrators worked with the architects to design a school that would meet the needs of their specialized program, focusing on the arts and project-based learning. Additionally, the school was designed to mirror the architecture of existing farm buildings on the property and provide flexible learning environments.
