California state law requires that schools teach a course on HIV/STD at least once in middle school and at least once in high school. A committee comprised of parents, students, nurses, as well as teachers, has looked at programs that have been recommended by the San Joaquin County Office of Education. They have selected a program called Positive Prevention: HIV/STD Prevention Education for California Youth to recommend to the Board of Trustees for adoption. The materials are on preview from May 1–12, 2006, in the Instructional Services office at the Education Center, 2010 W. Swain Road. Please stop by between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. if you would like to preview the curriculum before it is presented to the Board for adoption on June 14, 2006. |
