Art 1

...Art 1 is an UC Recomended introductory course into the arts. The goal of this class is to develop students’ abilities to create, describe, and talk about the visual world. The focus of this course will be an exploration of a variety of art experiences, including pencil drawing, painting, stippling and cross-hatching, pastel, lino, and scratch board. Accompanying the studio aspect of this class will be an introduction to Aesthetics (what is art?), Criticism (What is good art?), and Art History (What have been the pieces that influenced the evolution of art?). What is originality? What can and what has art taught us through the role of human history (focusing on the 19th and 20h century)? How are we manipulated daily by visual images? These will be a few of the questions students will develop an opinion on during the duration of this course.
