| Title 1 |
| Title I, the largest federally funded education program, provides high poverty schools (with at least 35% free and reduced lunch) with extra resources to help improve instruction. The goal is to ensure that all children have same opportunity to meet challenging state academic standards. Title I funds must supplement the base program and fund activities that are researched based and effective educational practices. School sites must designate how Title I funds will be spent to help children meet high academic goals in the Single Plan for Student Achievement. |
School Improvement
The No Child Left Behind Act contains provisions affecting districts receiving Title I funds. Some of the provisions apply to schools designated as Program Improvement. Two Lincoln schools are currently Program Improvement schools: Tully C. Knoles (Year 3) and Village Oaks (Year 2). School Choice and Supplement Services (described below) apply to these two schools. |
School Choice
When schools fail to meet adequate yearly progress (AYP) for two consecutive years they must provide students attending schools identified for improvement of the option of attending another public school that is not identified for improvement. The school district must provide or pay for transportation to the new school. |
Supplemental Services
Permits students attending schools who have failed to make AYP for three consecutive years to obtain supplemental educational services from the public- or private-sector provider of their choice. Only low-income children, who also have academic needs, are eligible for supplemental services. |
