Gifted and Talented Education
It is the mission of Lincoln’s Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program, in partnership with our parents and community, to provide a quality educational program for all GATE students. The incorporation of current research into the district plan ensures that best practices for gifted students will be used.
Because gifted students are gifted all day and not for just one period, the core of our GATE program lies within differentiating the instruction in the mainstream classroom. Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) are written in conjunction with the parents and students to address the various needs for changing the depth and/or complexity of instruction while maintaining a clear focus on California standards. Students may work in mixed-ability settings, clustered with other GATE students, and in independent learning environments as appropriate. After school activities may be provided at school sites, as well as opportunities to participate in community-based experiences.
Parents play a large role in the program design since all needs of GATE students cannot be met within the confines of a school setting. Part of the ILP may address ways that parents can provide support and guidance in order to help the students maximize their learning goals.
On June 14, 2004, Lincoln's Board of Trustees adopted the 2004-2007 GATE Plan, which was subsequently submitted and approved by the State of California.
Our student-created website is designed to provide students, parents and teachers with information regarding our district GATE programs, as well as links to other informational websites.
