The Elected Governing Board
Lincoln USD voters at-large elect trustees. Trustees serve four-year terms with a two-term limit effective November 2000.
Regular Meetings of the Board
The Board typically meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, with exceptions in the summer and winter months and according to school holidays. Most regular meetings are called to order at 6:00 p.m. for roll call and the Board’s adjournment to closed session. Closed Session is a time for the Board to discuss confidential matters, including personnel issues, student matters (expulsions, nonpublic school placements), legal matters, and issues regarding contract negotiations. The Board resumes Open Session at 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise posted. Generally, the first meeting of the month is held at a school site and the second meeting is held in the Beverly Holt Boardroom in the Education Center.
Special Meetings/Study Sessions
Special meetings or study sessions may be called as necessary. A special meeting of the Board may be called if it is necessary for a matter to be acted upon prior to the next regular meeting of the Board. A special study session may be called if extended time is needed for discussion on a specific issue. For example, if the Board needs to make decisions regarding specifications for a new school, the Board President may call a special study session to allow ample time for the single subject matter rather than consuming a large amount of time at a regular meeting of the Board. Special meetings or study sessions must be posted 24 hours in advance.

News from the Board of Trustees

During the January 16, 2013, regular meeting, the Governing Board discussed options for improving the safety and security of the District's school sites. A component of this discussion included the possibility of staffing every school site with a safety officer. The Governing Board gave direction to the Superintendent to bring back a formal staffing proposal at the next Board meeting.
On January 29, 2013, the Board approved the establishment of six new safety officer positions (7.5 hours per day, 182 day yearly contracts). This will augment our security department staffing to a level where every elementary school will have a Lincoln safety officer (security officer) serving the site during the regular school day. 

It is the Superintendent's and the Governing Board's expectation that an officer dedicated to each site will afford these officers the opportunity to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents, and notice individuals who “don’t belong.”  These officers will be able to assist in other key roles such as traffic control, campus supervision, drug/alcohol education and home visits.

This action illustrates the importance that the Superintendent and the Board place on the safety of our staff and students.  It is a core truth that safety is their first priority.
