NUTRITION POLICY

Lincoln Unified School District Child Nutrition Services will provide students access to enjoyable and nutritious meals each day. All food programs will help students to gain an understanding of nutrition and its importance to their lifelong health.

Goals and Strategies

1. To ensure that no student goes hungry
The District Food Service Department will ensure all students have access to nutritious lunches, breakfasts and after school snack programs when available.

2. To improve the nutritional quality of all foods served to LUSD students
All food served or sold to students on school district property will meet nutritional standards established by the District nutrition guidelines. (see attached)

  • All food served or sold to students within the District, including, but not limited to fundraisers, class activities, student stores, a la carte, and vending machines, will offer food items that meet district nutrition standards and will consider nutrition as a primary concern when deciding on food choices. These events and activities will not compete directly with the National School Lunch or Breakfast Program.
  • All food and beverage sales to students by groups related to the school district, such as PTAs, Booster Clubs, student groups etc. will offer food items that meet district nutrition standards when being sold from a half hour before school starts to a half an hour after school ends.
  • The district will develop and maintain a Student Nutrition Advisory Committee (SNAC) to act as a student advisory committee to Child Nutrition Services.

End Result

Students of the Lincoln Unified School District will develop healthy eating habits that will be a benefit to their overall health for the rest of their lives.
